Interview with Alton O. Crawley, an electrical engineer and Army veteran (Office of Strategic Services), concerning his experiences in the China-Burma-India Theater during World War II. Prewar civilian jobs in radio/communications work; his selection and training for OSS operations, 1943; assignment to Wudu, China, 1944; coastwatching activities and radio transmissions; various miscellaneous accounts of his tour of duty in China. Appendix includes a chronological list of major events (four leaves), per diem claims (two leaves), and letters from the interviewee to his wife (four leaves).

William John Alexadner was born of Scottish parents in Hamilton, Canada West, in 1855. He was educated in Hamilton and at the University of Toronto where he won a scholarship which enabled him to study English at the University of Wales College in Charlottetown for two years. He obtained a PhD in Greek And Philology at the newly constituted Johns Hopkins Unviersity in 1833, and spent a further year studying modern languages in Heidelberg.
